About Velbus (short history)

Velbus vmbstart1

Velbus is a Belgian home automation system developed by Velleman Group, an electronics company with decades of experience in the DIY and professional electronics market. Introduced in the early 2000s, Velbus was designed as a flexible, reliable, and easy-to-install automation solution for both residential and commercial buildings.

Built around a modular DIN-rail architecture and a robust communication protocol, Velbus gained popularity for its stability, local control, and long-term support.

Velbus offers strong integration options through its open and well-documented protocol. Third-party platforms have embraced the system. Notably, the Home center software provides full and user-friendly integration with Velbus, enabling advanced automation, visualization, and remote control through an intuitive interface.

The VelbusLink software provides a visual configuration environment that simplifies the setup and management of the system.

Today, Velbus continues to be developed in Belgium, with a growing international community of installers and smart home enthusiasts. It remains a trusted choice for those seeking a decentralized, cloud-independent automation system that combines reliability with long-term support.

Where can I purchase Velbus modules?

Visit the Home center webshop ↗️ to find the modules. If you are looking for a specific module that is not listed, please contact us to get more information and replacement options.

What software do you need to configure the Velbus modules?

The configuration and programmation of Velbus modules is done with VelbusLink. Check the Velbus download ↗️ for all recent information.

How is the configuration of the modules stored?

The logic and functionality is stored within the Velbus modules itself. However the naming and logical order and organisation is stored within a VelbusLink project file with file extension .vlp

It is important to keep this file and store it safely on your PC and to keep a backup of it on external location (external disk usb stick, cloud backup storage)!

When the file is lost the full range addresses needs to be scanned to find all the modules back and part of the naming will be lost.
